REFLECTING on “REFLECTION”
In the “Reflection” section of last weekend’s Parish bulletin (Jan.30/05) – “Some of our most
cherished values – wealth, power, individuality, independence, are all challenged by Jesus, and
sometimes they are the values that get us into deep trouble.”
1) Wealth … where is wealth more evident than in the Church? But wealth takes many forms. The
real wealth of the Church is the faithful laity. Is this wealth valued?
2) Power … no need to discuss this. Our very own pastor has claimed, and been affirmed, in his
concept that he is the “absolute authority”.
3) Individuality … this is for the ordained only – for the laity, obedience without question is
the edict.
4) Independence … The Church hierarchy demands the independence to pronounce, while
demanding financial support from the faithful.
If these values are challenged by Jesus, why are they a way of life for the hierarchy of the Church?

THE HOLY FATHER
Pope John Paul 11, has experienced many health problems during his 26 year reign. The parishioners
of St. Martin of Tours are saddened by his current health condition. We pray for his speedy recovery.

SHARING and CARING
Money has been pouring in all over the world for Tsunami Relief. We must remember, however, that
existing charitable organizations are also desperately in need of funds. They fear that they will be
forgotten because the Tsunami disaster has so greatly impacted public awareness. There is still a
compelling need to continue to fund existing charitable endeavours. As the Lenten season approaches,
some people are making a change in their pattern of almsgiving to encompass registered charities they
may not have considered before.
