CIRCULAR TO PARISHIONERS WEEK 86 - JAN21, 2006 UNITY: Today (January 22) is the beginning of “The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity”. Surely, this is a significant day for St. Martin of Tours, a parish that has not experienced unity for a number of years. How can we work towards unity with people of other faiths, if we are unable to achieve unity among ourselves? The unity of the Universal Church is tested in our attitude and response to those in need. When “those out there” become part of “us in here” we have taken one small step in the footsteps of Christ. See the following letter. _________________________________________________________________________________________ HELP US TO HELP EACH OTHER - WE ARE ONE Letter from Solidarité-Sud (Haïti) Thank you again for the great support of your parish to the realization of educational projects in Haiti. We are so happy that you want to pursue ongoing support. We decided to allocate the money you donated last year ($10,500) to restructuring a building for 800 schoolchildren in Petite Place Cazeau, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in September 2005. The building was previously an orphanage that was handed over to the Little Brothers of the Incarnation to convert into a school. Your contribution was used for building classrooms, for the purchase of desks and benches, and for the installation of a kitchen for all the 800 schoolchildren, who now receive one free meal everyday at the school. We know that much more money will be needed for the complete restructuring of the building, because the intention of the Brothers is to expand it into a professional school and to increase the number of children to over one thousand. You might be interested in participating in the next phases of the project. Thank you again for your great support to our development projects in Haiti for the benefit of the most needy ones. Benoît Bégin, Solidarité-Sud (Haïti) ______________________________________________________________ VALENTINE’S DINNER DANCE FRIDAY, 10th FEBRUARY: In answer to the needs expressed in Benoît Bégin’s letter, we are happy to rise to the challenge. With a little help from us, they can help themselves and achieve their goal of accommodating and educating 1000 needy children. Join us at the Waterside Inn in Port Credit for our 2nd Annual Valentine’s Dinner Dance. Tickets are $55 per person. Cocktails will be available from 6.30 pm. Afterwards enjoy a great meal in elegant surroundings, fabulous music, wonderful prizes and a Silent Auction. And best of all, the children of Haiti will benefit from this generosity. 100% of the proceeds of the Valentine’s Dinner Dance will be donated to the Petite Place Cazeau project in Port- au-Prince. Here’s a chance to join your fellow parishioners, friends and neighbours for a great evening. If you cannot attend, consider making a donation. It is tax receiptable.
