CIRCULAR TO PARISHIONERS                    WEEK 76 - NOV 12, 2005

THE CHURCH OF JESUS TODAY

Where did Jesus minister?  Where was Jesus’ “Church”?  Where is Jesus’ Church today?  Is it in the
streets, among the people – is that where we encounter Christ in the Living Gospel?  Our Parish-in-
Exile continues to flourish in the streets and on the sidewalk.  The Parish of St. Martin’s is spirited and
active “outside the walls”.

“There is such an enormous hunger for meaning in life, for comfort and consolation, for
forgiveness and reconciliation, for restoration and healing, that anyone who has any
authority in the Church should constantly be reminded that the best word to characterise
religious authority is
compassion.  Let’s keep looking at Jesus, whose authority was
expressed in compassion”
. (Bread for the Journey by Fr Henri Nouwen)

Big things are accomplished by little things done sincerely; they are the threads that hold the fabric fast.
Here is a sampling of the activities of our Parish, activities that express the living Gospel, but
unfortunately are banished “beyond the pale” of restrictive ordinances of the current parish
administration.

ANOTHER CLASSROOM FOR HAITI

Education is one of the most valuable gifts one can give.  It is the tool to counter ignorance, to fight
poverty and disease, and to redress injustice.  Earlier this year we helped finance the building of a
school in impoverished Haiti.  Plans are now underway for a second Valentine’s Dance to raise funds
for a second classroom for this school.  The date – Friday, 10th February, 2006.  The venue once
again, is none other than the highly acclaimed Waterside Inn in Port Credit.  Our first fundraiser for
Solidarite Sud in February 2005 was a resounding success.  We are confident that Parishioners will
rally to make our second dinner dance an even bigger and better event.  Mark your calendars now!
